EasyCare's shady contract requirements

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Purchased 7yr total care package for $10,000 in 2010. AC failed and is leaking freon ($1500 to fix). Dealer has accurately identified the problem and is able to see the leak from under the hood of the vehicle. Dealer called EasyCare to pre-approve coverage. Was told that in order for parts and labor to be covered, they had to remove the dash and look at the leak from within the vehicle. This would cost me an additional $800 (labor for removing the dash which takes about 6hrs). The catch: EasyCare will not cover the labor for the dash removal which they say is mandatory to re-diagnose what the Dealer has already identified as the problem. The second catch: EasyCare will not guarantee that they will cover the repair even if I pay the $800 out of pocket for the dealer to comply with the outrageous terms that EasyCare is requiring. Do not waste your money with this company... this is legal thievery.

Joke of a warranty

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Window was clunking when you move it up or down. Failure of a molding inside the door. Because the part it titled "Molding" they refused to pay for this item. Total joke. 3 year old car with an extended warranty that is junk. Don't waste your money on this warranty.

The Claims supervisor, Bill Flowers explained that it was a defect. What I don't understand is the fact that this type of thing is why we purchase extended warranties. What good is a warranty like this?

Please really do your research before buying this warranty. They're quick to sell it to you but will avoid paying whenever they get the chance.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and avoid EasyCare all together!!!

Had a turbo failure on a 2010 Subaru with 60k miles on it. The car is covered by Total Care so I expected a quick resolution to the problem. What I got was a painfully slow process of EasyCare sending inspectors out repeatedly to diagnose the problem. After two weeks it became obvious that these inspectors were just there to find a way out of the warranty claim. I've never missed a maintenance so I suppose that made it harder for them to find a way out of paying. Surprise surprise they eventually found a paper thin out and denied the claim. The whole process felt sleazy and not at all like working with a legitimate business. If you have bought this, I would recommend cancelling the policy immediately. As many others have posters have already learned, these guys will not cover a claim, it’s just not what they do. So that said, there is zero peace of mind if you are "covered" by this company.

Easycare Totalcare Warranty Plan Review from Cohoes, New York

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

So I bought a Jeep Liberty 2008 6-speed manual transmission vehicle with 75000 miles on it, from a Dealer in 2013. The dealership is very reputable so when the Agent suggested a warranty extension plan called Easycare it sounded worthwhile. I'm the kind of guy who reads the terms and conditions on Apple products and everything, because you should know what you sign for.

I saw all the coverages in the TOTALCARE option so it sounded ideal. Something breaks due to failure I pay a 100$ deductible and the rest is covered. Fantastic, I thought. I understood it doesn't cover wear and tear or corrosion due to natural effects or: Rain, Snow, lack of proper fluid change. Makes sense.

Skip to 2016 I'm driving along and all of sudden my clutch won't engage. After railing I'm screwed, I call them up and ask for their emergency roadside assistance. Took 2 hours for a tow guy to come, the only thing they paid for.

I take it to a shop that accepts their warranty, Monro Muffler, solid mechanic shop. The supervisor informs me that the clutch is burned out and the fiberglass cover to the pressure plate is all but destroyed.

Great, so I know my warranty won't cover it because the clutch is excluded. However, after he takes the clich apart he finds that the flywheel was damaged and not serviceable anymore.

So, I'm not an auto mechanic but I am in my last year for a masters in Computer Engineering, so I remember a few things from my mechanical engineering elective course.

So, the supervisor explains that a bad flywheel, the roaring plate that allows the engine to turn without locking into the drive shaft, is engaged by the clutch. The flywheel locks into the clutch and the clutch in turn does its part in rotating the drive shaft.

He explained that the flywheel is the reason the clutch was worn down and eventually destroyed. The two parts constantly press against each other so in his 20 some years of experience he assured me the flywheel is the most probable reason the clutch was worn down.

Well the flywheel is covered in the warranty contract so I thought I was saved Aussive repair bill. Well the company sends an "investigator" to come look at it.

He takes about a day to come by and looks at the vehicle, with his camera and interviews the mechanic about what HE thinks the issue is. This guy doesn't even look like a mechanic, probably never worked on a car in his life. He then steps outside to his car with his laptop and after 20 or so minutes walks back in and gives HIS to report to the mechanic supervisor. The supervisor looks at it and says "I don't agree with this report, you're wrong."

The report said that the clutch (a non covered part) was the reason the flywheel was damaged, because of the corrosion on the flywheel. The mechanic explained that the flywheel would have corrosion and wear and tear because it is constantly being engaged by the clutch. But the flywheel failed because it wasn't aligned properly and tore apart the clutch pressure plate.

Well the "investigator" said this is my report I need you to sign it. My mechanic said he doesn't agree with it, but the investigator said you can mark disagree, but this is the report I'm sending to the company.

Well, we had to wait another day for the company to make a decision, and of course throwing experience and ambiguous terminology to the wind; they denied my claim. They said, the flywheel was damaged by the clutch through wear and tear and they are not responsible for any coverage.

So to wrap it up, picture this. Assume your punching a wall, and you hit it in a softer spot that doesn't break your fist, and you hit the same spot each time. Every now and then you might slip slightly and hit the hard part of the wall, and maybe chip it slightly and your hand may get a little scratched but your still functional. Now say for some reason the hole your hitting in the wall becomes misaligned somehow, probably due to the nature of engine mound shifting over time. And you hit thsw spot on the wall, but not the hole. And you break your hand. What caused you to break your hand? The wall did because it shifted due to a mechanical failure.

That's how much clutch got damaged, the flywheel needed to be fixed because it wasn't aligned properly; well the warranty company thinks you broke your hand because you hit the wall out of place. How if you always hit the same spot each time?

And that is how they screwed me out of coverage. Because the flywheel looked like it had wear and tear damage, so that's why the clutch was damaged. Of course it'll have wear and tear! Byt wear and tear didn't cause it to become misaligned. A pin that holds the fly wheel in place got jostled and made it loose and it wasn't where it was supposed to be.

So screw easycare, if you have any serious damage to your vehicle don't expect them to cover it. They will interpret it how they want and screw what professionals say. The claims agent I spoke to afterwards defended the report even after I explained it to him like i did in this post. I'm not a mechanical engineer or an auto mechanic but I do know about mechanical processes and can see how stuff works. Screw easycare, tread lightly and be *** sure their is no ambiguity when filing a claim. What a joke

SHOULD BE CALLED SLEAZY CARE WARRANTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Easy Care always sends out an adjustor to argue with the Dealerships to get your claim down below the $250 deductible. They are famous for this. Beware

I had two failure code lights on for months for an O2 (OXYGEN) Sensor and a MAP Sensor for the Catalytic Converter on my 2004 Suburban with only 43,000 miles on it.

I finally took it to the dealership and the "SLEAZY CARE" people sent an adjustor who upon arrival, after being shown the DIAGNOSTIC REPORT, demanded the lights be reset and when they didn't come back on IMMEDIATELY WITH THE CAR SITTING IN THE DEALERSHIP BAY, DECLARED THE CAR O.K.! This is their little trick, so you get stuck with the Dealership diagnostic cost ($95) and leave, only to have the lights come on again and you go through the same thing again AND AGAIN! You would have to be there when the sensors fail PERMANENTLY, to get them covered! These PEOPLE WERE PAID $2500 TO COVER THIS CAR NOT FIND REASONS TO GET OUT OF PAYING!

BEWARE DO NOT BUY THIS INSURANCE, SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR REPAIRS. IF THEY WON'T COVER A $250 SENSOR DO YOU THINK THAY WILL COVER A $4500 ENGINE?
